I’ll be straight about it: Omunchy is a clone of Omarchy. It’s the same idea, a keyboard-driven tiling Wayland setup where everything is a keypress away, rebuilt to run on much lighter hardware. It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by the Omarchy project.
Why I made it
I ran Omarchy on an old Chromebook and loved it, but the RAM overhead hurt. I wanted the same feel with less weight, so I rebuilt it on a lighter stack, based on ArchBang.
What is in it
- MangoWC compositor with Waybar, Rofi and Mako
- One installer script that sets everything up
- Keyboard-first workflow
- superfile as the file manager
- NetworkManager with a dmenu-style Wi-Fi picker and a startup notification telling you if you’re online
- Official repo packages only, with an optional yay (AUR helper) install script if you want it
AI tools (optional)
It’s set up to get AI tools running quickly. Opencode works out of the box, and you can use it not only to control the system but to install other AI tools of your choice. If you need more token power, bring your own API key. As I say, it’s optional: if you don’t need it or want it, remove it.
What it leaves out
No massive, heavy applications you didn’t ask for, and no web-app launchers in this first release. I don’t use them, so I didn’t ship them. Tell me if you want them.
Try it
Boot the ISO, and if you like it, open a terminal and run obinstall. At this early stage I suggest trying it in a virtual machine first.
Early release
Treat this as a beta.
If it breaks on your hardware, open an issue on GitHub or get in touch via the contact page.
