Pie for Less….

I saw that the Raspberry Pi5 16Gb is out and costs $120. Wondered if I could buy a mini pc for that money. Managed to get a good friend of mine [thanks Jamie] to help with the search. Now the rules were that it had be around $120 had to have 16gb of ram and storage. After some searching Jamie came across an HP ProDesk 400 G5 Mini PC, Intel i5-9500T, 16GB RAM, 128GB nvme! on Ebay for $140. Twenty dollars over budget but unlike the Pi it has a case, cpu fan,128Gb of storage and a power supply.

When it arrived I fired it up just to check it was as described and working. Then I cleaned case, fan and heatsink and replaced thermal paste. It measures 180mm x 180mm x 40mm larger than Pi of course but you get far more for your money.

It came with Windows 11 on nvme but that has gone replaced by Archlinux 😉

Have uploaded a new iso image, no major changes updated packages and theme changes.

Am thinking about disabling copy to ram feature, while it can be a useful feature it does rely on the fact you have more than 4Gb of ram. The only time I an see it being useful is maybe running faster and possibly freeing up a usb port.

If Arch releases a new kernel package I will of course update iso image.

Have good weekend and stay safe 😉
