Have had some questions about persistence in ArchBang, archiso does support it but it is limited and is a little awkward to set up. Hoping to test over the weekend to see how difficult it is on a Virtual Machine. Think it was more of a throw back to how Knoppix CD worked, you merrily messed around added packages, changed themes, setting then powered off and it all gone. Persistence is more about creating a file/folder with any changes you made to system, these would be added onto system at next boot. It is all done via copy on write.
I find that you are still limited because you cannot fully update system (more so in the case of kernel). Here you have a couple of options, loop mount iso via grub or install system to usb device.
It is not an easy thing to do or something I have used recently, but I am always up for a challenge…
