Anyone like a GUI installer in FruitBANG?

Have had a GUI installer itch for a long time. Always avoided it as I am not a real fan of the whole point-and-click installer thing. That said, a lot of new users can be intimidated by a text-only terminal application that has no real feedback. The mainstream distro installers are huge to say the least — heavy graphical toolkits and overcomplex code to do even a simple Arch Linux install.

So I was interested when I came across Cockpit — a web-based admin interface for Linux servers — which has some interesting features, one of which is that it runs inside a browser. It has a simple file manager, access to a terminal, along with other tools. However, as it’s a service, it runs all the time. Figured that a simple script that can run like abinstall but in a browser tab might just be the answer.

So I created a Python script that can be run via localhost in Firefox, and you have a basic graphical installer 😉
It is very, very much a work in progress and I am still testing it at the moment. Will share more once I’ve tested further — for now I can say that it does work and is fast, almost tempted to say faster than abinstall (in auto mode).

For now it’s not exactly feature-rich, but it could be easily extended as required.

If you would like to test [under a VM for now] then please contact me and I will tell you how to run it.

Iso update is uploaded, also now includes a yay aur helper install script.

On the switch to MangoWM have only had two votes so far!

Enjoy the weekend.

Stay safe….
