Quick roundup of what’s been keeping me busy lately.
A new iso image has just been uploaded, no major changes other than usual package updates. Themebang has more features added, still work in progress — let me know what you think.
Been trying to get the installer more secure and to flow better, never happy but I am getting closer to what I want. Been testing out the installer that I borrowed (well, more like stole) from Omarchy. It flows in a way that makes installation so fast and only needs a few key elements, then it just gets on with it. Guess that’s where the “opinionated linux” idea comes from, most of the choices are made under the hood. You only really need a username, password and location. Select target drive and you’re done. Something I may bring into ArchBang at some point.
Testing out different shells — Noctalia, DANK, Wayle. They are fully loaded with features I never use or want. I get that it is cohesive, easy to use and configure. But the sheer size and complexity of these things makes me dizzy. Had high hopes for Noctalia as it is the lightest and does have all a user really needs under wayland. DANK is more likely the largest as it is based on QuickShell. Still undecided which, if any, will end up in the ArchBang family.
You have more than likely already heard of vibe coding, been messing with pi.dev using it to rice my desktop. Have never been that good at ricing, more true is I know what I want just not how to do it. Having something I can use plain language with to tell it what I want makes life so much easier. Lazy? Maybe, but making small changes in waybar then restarting it over and over again gets boring fast.
One thing I did was add .desktop files for a lot of terminal applications I use, so now they can be launched from rofi in a foot terminal with ease. Then I thought, why open rofi and type what I want when I could just add a keybind?
Same old problems, just new ways of solving them. Vibe ricing is far more fun and I can work on other more interesting things…
