No presents under the tree…..

Big news first — in the next few days I’ll be building and uploading an rc image of ArchBang that’s now based on Wayland and running Labwc as the window manager. It’s as close to Openbox as I can possibly get under Wayland, and I’ve been steadily adding features, keybinds, and settings. Still very much a work in progress, but it’s coming together nicely.

The new feature that copies your live session tweaks straight to the installed system seems to have been a big hit.

I’ve also added some fake tiling binds to Labwc. To try them out, open a terminal and hit Super+Control+Arrow keys. While holding Super+Control, hit an arrow key again and watch the magic happen. Easier to do than explain! Use Super+Control+c to centre a window, similar to the Sway bind. I’ve also added Super+t for opening a terminal — mostly for my own muscle memory, but you might find it handy too.

Moving forward I’ll be running Labwc under Wayland only, unless someone genuinely can’t manage without Xorg on the live session for some reason. If you need Xorg post-install, that’s no problem — just install and set up what you need.

Now, I must admit I was hoping Santa might drop a coffee or two in the ArchBang stocking on Christmas morning… but apparently I’m still on the naughty list! I’ve worked hard on this over the past few months, and if ArchBang has been useful to you, a coffee would genuinely make my day — and fuel the next build.

As always, thank you so much for your support, past and future. Don’t be afraid to get in touch.

Stay safe 😉
