Just built and uploaded a new iso image, no major changes other than package updates and a new kernel. While working on themes I forgot to make changes to dmenu, should now work correctly.
There is a lot of talk on the internet about the big distros switching to Wayland only. Gnome is also hinting at running Wayland only. If Arch decides to drop X11 support in main repos and put packages in AUR, then ArchBang would need an alternative window manager. I have tried LabWC and Waybox which are based on Openbox but under Wayland. Personally I did not like them, maybe projects are not mature enough or not heavily maintained I do no know.
Thought about using Sway which is based on i3. Have started work on getting an iso image to run Sway, very early days yet as I have to basically recreate ArchBang but using Wayland components.
Sway is a tiling window manager so my first thought was to just make all windows float like Openbox. This is quite easy to do and while it goes against having a tiler in the first place it does make an easy starting point for anyone who has never used one.
Window controls are keyboard driven with the exception of moving or resizing. It is far easier to do this using a modifier and mouse.
Applications can use very similar keybinds to ArchBang for the most part.
To that end I have been working on a iso image titled SwayBang, very very early in development. It does boot into Sway but I have a lot of work to do before I can share for testing. Would also have to make changes to installer to make it work, not a big deal but does take time to test.
Screenshot shows SwayBang running Foot terminal with Waybar panel live.
If anyone is interested in a Wayland version then feel free to contact me.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend
Stay safe…
