Have been very busy this week….

EDIT: I have updated iso image to include latest kernel 😉

Have made quite a few changes to ArchBang this week. Mostly theme and some general housekeeping. Also added another window manager to the mix more on that later.

Changes:

Updated Conky to include more keybinds and some colour changes.
Added dmenu launcher [Super+d] as a lighter alternative to rofi.
Useless items removed from Applications menu in Openbox.
Added Gparted to System sub menu in Openbox live.
Alacritty has a new theme, in line with PyWal colours.
Archinstall removed seems little point live, as it can be installed quite easily.
Added i3 tiling window manager and i3status bar.

What do I mean by useless items in Application menu? Some items show up that will either give an error or a random window. Xdg_menu is based on .desktop files found in /usr/share/applications. It allows Openbox to have a dynamic menu that will automatically update when a new application that has a desktop file is installed. Have added a line in the unwanted .desktop files to hide them. For now they will remain hidden live, maybe future versions I will restore them so they show up again. Given ArchBang has so few applications shipped with it a static menu would be more than enough with the option to include xdg_menu [Applications] installed. Confused I am 😉

Had a thought the other day of just using the keybinds file in Conky. Quite a few useful binds for you to try out.

Have made Gparted easier to access live. To that end it will only be available in Openbox menu live. Post install it will be removed as installed you can quite easily damage your system drives, do not ask me how I know!

For now I have only added the packages for i3 window manager, have not created any configs for it yet. It will really depend on any user feedback I get. For now if you wish to test it out, edit ~/.xinitrc and change exec openbox-session to exec i3…

Still have more work to do on general themes and I would love a matching icon/gtk3 theme but that might be far too much work in the short term.

Will update Guide in the near future too to reflect changes and put in some useful information.

Iso image will be uploaded tomorrow, though am keeping an eye on a possible kernel update…

Enjoy the rest of your weekend

Stay safe 😉
