Iso updates

December release is still available but for more up to date isos please check out our testing section:

Isos here are more up to date and will hopefully throw up any major problems post install.

ArchBang 2012.12 is out in the wild!!

ArchBang 2012.12 is out in the wild!!! If you are already running ArchBang smoothly on your system then you don’t need to install the new release. This 2012.12 release is a full systemd version with our latest set of minimal packages and Openbox for the competent Linux user.

A few changes for this release:

- Linux kernel 3.6.8

- GnomishDark Theme with Shakey-Stapler-Dark Widget

- updated openbox-menu

- dbus-launch removed

ArchBang still plans to have 4 major releases per year. Due to upgrades and improvements to the Arch Linux system, ArchBang will continue to release unofficial test .isos between official releases to address changes and prevent excessive workarounds in installing and updating newly installed systems. Please refer to the ArchBang Forums periodically for news on new testing .isos. Happy Holidays and all the best to everyone for a prosperous 2013!!

The latest November ArchBang testing .isos are available now.

These .isos now reflect the recent evolutionary changes in Arch Linux and use systemd by default.

Any previous ArchBang release is now considered deprecated and not to be used for installation.

Test them out and share your feedback with us.

ArchBang May .iso Issues

Many new users of ArchBang are having serious problems updating after installing the May release. We are well aware of the problem, but there is no easy fix. If you have tried to update right after install then there is a good chance the problem can be resolved by removing broadcom-wl drivers.

As a rough guide:

sudo pacman -Syy

sudo pacman -R broadcom-wl

sudo pacman -Syu --ignore glibc,curl

sudo pacman -Su

If you need broadcom drivers then:

# packer -S broadcom-wl

We are working hard to get a new set of testing isos released to resolve the issue. With previous recent changes to the Arch Linux system (/lib to /usr/lib, Grub to Grub2, etc.), we are in the process of creating a new release at the moment and once we have a working iso set, the AB team will put it out for testing.

ArchBang 2012.05 is out in the wild!! If you are already running ArchBang smoothly on your system you don’t need to install the new release.

- QDarkStudio4 default GTK theme

- Shotwell picture viewer

- Improved Conky

- Epdfview replaces zathura

- simple clean tint2 panel

- Broadcom wireless added

- virtualbox-archlinux-additions

- Mobile Broadband modem capability added to Network Manager

New Project Leader

As of today, the new project leader for ArchBang will be Stan McLaren. Me & Prit will not be able to lead the project anymore because our situations are changing in real life (internship, getting a job, new passion, love, family & friends in need of us just to name a few). This is why ArchBang needs a new leader. Stan (aka ArchVortex) has been pretty involved w/ Paul (pablokal), Kev (MrGreen), Oliver & Kruppt. If it hadn’t been for you guys, ArchBang would’ve been discontinued but thanks God for this nice relief team. I believe you guys will do a great job & thank you for all the support you’ve provided to AB users so far. I want to say a special thanks to Prit (who has been with me since the beginning when we decided to have isos for both architectures). A special thanks to Mike for hosting this website. A special thanks to Dan for setting up the website. A special thanks to Conker1r for all his great wallpapers A special thanks to anonymous from the CB forums who helped me a lot in setting up Arch for the very first time. A special thanks to Philip Newborough (corenominal) for making a wonderful distro based on Ubuntu in the beginning (that motivated me to have the same distro but with rolling releases). A special thanks to Calimero (from ctkarch) who made his config files available to anyone willing to use them (was pretty handy for the installer). Twice per year

My co-dev Prit (a.k.a. sHyLoCk) is back in action with a good suggestion that I’ll adopt which is to have 2 releases per year which is plenty for a rolling release distro (Ubuntu also has 2 releases/year on April & October and it’s not a rolling release distro). This also means that the name format will not change to ArchBang-Season-YYYY . Our two release months will be June & December. Have fun with our previous release and keep on reporting problems & giving your feedback

Notes:
-You can always build Arch w/ Openbox from scratch by following my guide to help you
-If you don’t like the black & gray system tray icons, remove the following line in tint2rc:
‘systray_icon_asb = 100 -100 -25′
-If you have 2 network manager icons, remove ’(sleep 3 && /usr/bin/nm-applet –sm-disable) &’ in Preferences>Openbox>autostart

ArchBang 2011.11 is this year’s last release!
As of next year, the name format will change from ArchBang YYYY.MM to ArchBang SEASON-YYYY so the next release will be ArchBang Spring-2012 on March 21st 2012
